Local Area Plan

Local Area Plans

In 2014, the Government of Gujarat introduced the Local Area Plan (LAP) mechanism into its urban planning framework. This addition, made possible by an amendment to the Gujarat Town Planning and Urban Development Act (GTPUDA) 1976, included "Special provisions for Local Area Plan." The integration of LAP with the existing DP-TP mechanism has strengthened the state's urban planning framework, reflecting Gujarat's commitment to progressive urban development since its first planning act in 1915.

A Local Area Plan (LAP) is a legal planning tool designed to enhance developed areas by addressing issues, retrofitting, and proposing improvements. Local Area Plans are designed to address the unique characteristics, challenges, and opportunities within specific localities.

GTPCL planners can help in the development of Local Area Plans with an aim to promote sustainable development, efficient land use, and improved quality of life for residents with focus on the specific and distinctive features of the area. GTPCL experts ensure alignment with the specific purpose for the plan as well as with the broader Master Plans & Development Plans of the towns and cities. The Local Area Plans can be developed with focus on tourism, heritage, industrial corridors, education corridors, religious sites, etc.
